We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Liam and Nathanael who have recently passed their exams and are now qualified chartered accountants! To mark this significant achievement, we asked them to share how they feel about reaching this milestone and what advice they would give to those just stating out in the profession. Here’s what they had to say…
Liam Bullimore
How do you feel now that you are qualified?
“I’m happy and relieved that all the hard work has paid off. I’m excited to move forward and start progressing in my professional career.”
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the profession?
“It may seem daunting at first, and the workload can be intense, but it is definitely worth the time and effort. Passing your exams brings a great sense of accomplishment.
I would also say that when choosing where to complete your studies, it’s important to look into each of the training programmes that different firms offer. Look for a firm that provides flexibility and support with managing both your studies and your work responsibilities. I’ve found at HB&O that having a supportive environment, where not just your line manager but also other managers and directors understand the challenges and support you, makes a massive difference. They know that everyone has to start somewhere and are here to help you succeed.”
Nathanael Hodges
How do you feel now that you are qualified?
“I feel a big sense of relief! I’m excited to spend more time with friends and family now that studying is behind me. It’s also rewarding to be able to step up in my role, take on more responsibility, such as leading audits rather than being the junior, and help others along the way.”
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the profession?
“Be open-minded and willing to explore different areas of accountancy, such as audit, accounts, or tax. Try things out and see which area you enjoy the most – you never know which might turn into a lifelong career. There are so many doors that open to you in both practice and industry, and it’s well worth considering all the opportunities available.”
